Vintage vs Modern
I recently picked up a couple of vintage Pentax 50mm lenses, one being an f2.0 and the other being an f1.7. The f2.0 is a lens that was manufactured in the late 1970’s and the f1.7 is slightly newer, being made in the mid to late 1980’s. They are both fully manual lenses with an aperture ring and manual focus ring.
But the cool thing about these lenses is, because they are Pentax K mount, they work on all of the modern Pentax DSLR cameras. Now, of course, you can’t use any of the autofocus or “in camera” aperture settings, and you must control all of that by setting the camera in manual mode and dialing in the aperture via the lens.
I made a video about the experience of using the f2.0 version of the lens and put it against my more modern 50mm f1.8 lens, showing some of the differences between the 2, and how they look compared to each other in the same settings.
